Lovely, comfortable ground floor room with excellent facilities. Superb food. Wonderful staff who couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. What more could we want?

It was five star not four,everything was perfect,from arriving to eating was just perfect….the view from our free upgrade was stunning even though it was misty with rain it added to the beauty…we will be back…..the staff were amazing too??

We booked Balcary House Hotel for a one nights stay and it was a fabulous experience from start to finish. The hotel is set on Balcary Bay with stunning views, the hotel is old and has a rich history connected to smuggling. Our room was fantastic, spacious big comfortable bed and the bathroom was huge. The view looked straight out onto the sea so we sat and watched until the sunset then went for an evening meal, we had a starter each of haggis Bon Bon’s which were excellent and then my wife had the lemon chicken and I had fish and chips, both were of great quality with good sized portions. We went to bed and slept with curtains open as I wanted to see the sunrise, I wasn’t disappointed. We also had breakfast included which again was wonderful, porridge to start then scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. The staff were friendly helpful, polite and professional. The decor in the house was relaxed comfortable and quirky. All in all Balcary was an amazing experience one which we are unlikely to forget and hopefully return for another visit.

My husband and I went for a 4 night stay recently - lovely hotel with a large room, views of the Solway Firth of Hestan Island, excellent food and very friendly staff. We had a peaceful, much needed break. Absolutely recommend this hotel!

This is an excellent hotel if you want to get away from it all for a few days. Well away from the crowds, right on the beach with stunning views and attractive gardens. The staff are very friendly, the rooms lovely and the food excellent.

Great food and a location. We had a room with a terrace and we could relax with our dogs outside as it was fully enclosed with a gate on to the garden. The room was large and the food was so good we had the same 3 courses 2 nights in a row, although the amazing chef changed our dessert slightly. We loved this place and just wished we had found it sooner.

The hotel is in a fabulous setting with a fabulous view of the sea .. such a relaxing view .. the room was a little strange with kitchen units however we didn’t mind that .. there were lots of cobwebs on the windows above the patio doors and a lot of dirt in the patio doors which needs to be addressed.. apart from that the room was quite pleasant.. the evening meal was lovely we had fish and chips .. the breakfast was very disappointing not enough on the plate.. and the sound of silence was just awful it needs to have soft music playing to give the hotel a nice atmosphere.but the staff were fabulous

Amazing setting, right on the beach, views to die for. Tranquil place for a couples getaway. Rooms were lovely and well appointed. Food was excellent, and the service was great. This is how you run a family owned hotel. More than ‘well worth a visit’.

Why you have to register your car for parking is beyond me as the hotel is at the end of a very long track and I cannot see people parking here who are not staying in the hotel. This was a late booking made 3 weeks prior to our visiting. Was met by friendly, I suspect manageress who gave us a rapid tour round the rooms. She wanted the rooms paying for straight away We're were shown to our very large rooms that seemed to have everything for our comfort. A little strange however having kitchen units and refrigerator along one wall. The bathroom was enormous with plenty of hot water. After visiting our rooms we went looking for some refreshments but we're extremely disappointed to find no draught ales or cider. Only drinks were bottled or cans and were in a large fridge. There were cakes for sale at a price. As we were leaving early the next morning we requested an early breakfast but this caused no end of problems as the manageress would have to ask the kitchen if this is something they could do and she returned a couple of minutes later with the offer of choice of fruit juice and cereal. Bit peedboff they could not do more for a price of ￡210 each for the nights accommodation. Plus we ate in the dining room and had a pleasant meal but again paying just short of ￡90 for the two of us. The following morning as we drove down the very long drive on our way back to Dalbeattie we passed the owners on the morning walk. Why they could not have made us breakfast I don't know it's the typical English disease Maybe selfish on our part but being in the hotel and catering trade one would think that was part of the experience for guests.

We popped in here for a drink and so enjoyed it we decided to book for dinner, it was wonderful, and they made us feel special we were a group of 8 and were celebrating my brother's wedding a few days before. The staff set us up in the private dining room and we had a fabulous meal with a wonderful view. Overall, it was a special experience in a lovely setting with very nice professional staff.
