Stop over on way back from Scotland. Lovely big, clean room overlooking garden and field of sheep. Lovely cooked breakfast. Short walk to Royal Oak for good food or into vilage itself which is very pretty. Would stay again as lots of walks nearby.

Absolutely highly recommended a stay at Bongate House. Anne makes your stay so special, nothing is too much trouble she goes above and beyond for her guests xx Beautiful rooms, amazing breakfast, gorgeous views. A great base to explore the beautiful countryside and lakes. X

Only stayed at this B&B for one night and we were made really welcome. Anne, the owner, was very helpful with local knowledge and picking my sister up from the station. The room was large, clean, well furnished with wonderful views over the town. Wifi worked well. There was plenty of parking. Breakfast was plentiful, excellent and hot. There was a very good pub within walking distance for an evening meal which Anne booked for us. The town centre is in walking distance. Ideal centre for touring the area. We will certainly stay again if we are in the area.

A fantastic 3 day break. A most welcoming place, old historic hall in the shadow of Appleby Castle. The owner was most welcoming and nothing was a bother. Our bedroom was cosy and felt like home from home. We had a balcony which overlooked the vast impressive well planted garden to the rear of the property. If visibility had been good at night we might have seen a meteor shower at night. Breakfast was cooked to order and beautifully presented. Can't wait to return in better weather.

We stayed here in September after the hotel we were booked into had to close due to flooding. What a fortunate accident for us! Anne was so welcoming and warm and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with her. Her daughter-in-law was so friendly as well! Our room was lovely and clean, bed comfy and the cooked to order breakfast was wonderful. We came from Canada to meet with cousins and she enabled us the time and space to get to know one another. Would recommend to anyone looking for the perfect B & B!
