I went here for afternoon tea with my wife, And wow! They met all expectations! We often swim at the sea pool just below, and it is very veryt near the start of Margate Parkrun, so for us is in a great location. Selection of tea was great (my wife had a lovely Lemon and Ginger, and I had a wonderful Jasmin pearl tea). The sandwiches were freshly made, there was a good portion of cake, and the scones and cream were absolutely delicious! Highly recommend this for an afternoon tea. I have previously stayed here when travelling for business and had a great stay then too!

On a sunny Sunday, we decided to have the Walpole cream tea, cakes and sandwiches for a special Sunday lunch at the Walpole hotel. After visiting this quirky hotel, we went to the lovely restaurant and had our special lunch which was fantastic. We started with the 4 sandwiches which were excellent and then we really enjoyed the lemon drizzle and the chocolate cakes. The scones were very tasty too. We had English teas and that went well with our treats. Everybody was very friendly and welcoming and it was very relaxing to have a high tea in this lovely hotel (we arrived at 12h00 and left at 14h15). This is a very good experience and we will do it again in the sunny months of 2026. Thank you to all Walpole Hotel staff!

Once you have got your head around the fact that this hotel is meant to look like a time, it's an enjoyable step back in time. Afternoon cream tea was just like the 1970s with jam and cream to match. Afterwards, I watched an old episode of The Hotel Inspector and they seem to have ignored most of the advice. But, it's still going.

Highly recommended for a completely different experience from the anonymous chain hotels. Everywhere has fascinating collections and museum pieces from 1920s onwards.. Excellent breakfast. Smart and helpful staff. Only two down sides a) it is about 25 minutes walk into "downtown Margate" and b) it is at Margate, which is very rundown. If you must come to Margate....this is ABSOLUTELY THE HOTEL TO STAY.

Un luogo di altri tempi, eccentrico e raffinato, dove abbiamo sorteggiato thè in puro stile inglese, allietati dai racconti della gentilissima proprietaria. Una esperienza assolutamente da provare.

What a quaint hotel, Loved the decor, We had the afternoon tea there, It was devine, sandwiches so fresh, cakes so moist & the scones were out of this world! £22.50 worth every penny. The staff were brilliant, looked after us really well. Highly recommend it. Then we had a walk around the napery, went up in the old fashioned lift Well worth a visit

We booked for Cream Teas with several ladies as it was a Hen do outing. Although situated in a lovely place by the sea, the cream teas were the worst I have ever experienced I ruefully have to say. I have had their cream teas prior and they were wonderful affairs. Not sure what happened this time, 4 x tiny sandwiches, sponges were dried up and past their sell by date I am sure; Coffee was vile, too weak and tasted as though it was brewed the day before; the tea seemed a lot better I must admit. All the scones were with raisins and sultanas, no plain scones were offered as some in our party wanted theirs without fruit. The whole afternoon was rather spoilt as the staff were also not very accommodating. We had visited four years prior and all the cream teas were spot on and tasted so good, totally gone down hill considering we were in a party of ten girls on a hen do. Will not visit here again - avoid like the plague especially as they charged £22.00 odd each - it was despicable.

We've just returned from a wonderful 2 night break at the Walpole. Stepping inside it really is going into a different world. The warmth of the receptionists' welcome immediately made us realise that we were in for a special treat and so it proved to be. We will definitely return. Parking is not an issue, however Margate town is only 30 minutes or so away on foot. Additionally in the nearby Northdown Road there is an excellent frequent bus service to town or toward Broadstairs with buses every 8 minutes or so. The car stayed put!

I will start with the positives which I have given my star rating for. The reception, outside terrace, bar and dining area were all very nice. Staff were welcoming and available to help when needed. We liked the location of the hotel for its easy walk to Botany Bay and central Margate. Plenty of free parking. A good selection for breakfast. On arrival our family room was very small and the beds were not suitable for our family. We did get moved into another room which was ok. Whilst I appreciate the unique vintage styles I found the rooms to be tired and in need of update. Old mattress, cob webs, worn carpet, torn bedding, sunken sofa, our toilet was not flushing and shower ran hot and cold. The curtains were thin so the light woke us up early. (Room 107) Improved decor and cleaning would make for a more enjoyable stay. Sadly I would not return without that.
