We needed a place to stay last minute as we were visiting Big Sur and didn't want to drive home as it was evening/dark and we lived 5 hrs south. They had a camping cabin available for my family and 3 dogs. It was a cute cabin and we enjoyed our overnight stay.
We stayed as a family of four for 1 night in Motel Room G. The room was clean and comfortable with a queen bed, a double bed and ensuite bathroom. We were initially worried there might be some road noise but we didn't notice any. We had dinner at the restaurant which we all enjoyed, the outdoor patio area is very nice. There is also a convenience store which we used to buy a few items the next day before we left. Fernwood Resort was very affordable for the Big Sur area and we recommend staying here.
Absolutely loved this resort. We came for about 5 days. Stayed in the motel. Room was 10/10. Loved it. Beautiful views. So close to everything. Not one issue our entire stay. Restaurant was great. Casual. Fun. Good food and drinks. Friendly staff. I can’t wait to go back.
We stopped at fernwoods after hiking for a quick dinner. When we walked on the back patios it was unexpected in the best way. The back patio has a magical feel with the amazing Big Sur backdrop. They had ample heaters to help with the chill that sets in for dinner time. The food was also great but the highlight for us was the patio and the amazing scenery
Soooooo rude. Maybe classes in social interactions would help? We spent a lot of money for the unspoken f*** you from the charmless young women in the shop. We have stayed in a number of places in Big Sur which have been amazing. This was not one of them. Might be an idea to remember that a lot of people visiting will be on the trip of a lifetime and should be met with courtesy.
Totally Recommended!! Our first time staying at the Motel. We loved the friendliness of Jennifer Verdeja- we had the best customer service! Rooms fine for the inexpensive BIG SUR price you pay!' We had Room H with our own hot tub. Heating worked great ... Rustic but comfortable! Redwoods are in your backyard. So beautiful!! We loved the Restaurant! It was our first time. Our server was super friendly!! Again prices were reasonable!!! I am looking forward to going again and again!! The restaurant was delicious. We had the best service - delicious brussel sprouts , a burger and pot pie in the Redwoods. Stellar weather however there were heat lamps and fireplaces as well! I probably should not tell too many people !!
Fantastic bar and restaurant serving home made pizzas. The views from the wood deck overlooking the redwoods, river and camp ground. Stunning spot to enjoy a relaxing drink or dinner The rooms are simple and clean, but as we expected. There’s a great hike from fern wood called ‘buzzards roost’. Right in the heart of the big sur national park. Unfortunately part of the PCH (route 1) was closed on our visit so had to do a bigger loop back to Monterey to travel south. The hotel had sent this information to us a couple of times prior to our visit. It was without doubt worth the extra drive.
Fernwood is a good affordable option in the otherwise obscenely expensive Big Sur area. In a casual search for hotels in the area I chanced upon this hotel accidentally and booked immediately without reading any reviews. The room turned out to be surprisingly clean and well maintained. The people of the property are also pretty nice and helpful. Unfortunately for me, my trip coincided with one of the worst heat waves in CA history and that did mar our overall experience with the property. The motel rooms in this property are only equipped with heaters which are meant for a cooler weather and there is no air conditioning or fans available in the rooms. The staff were kind enough to lend me a small portable fan which covered one of the beds but the people on the other bed still struggled with the hot temps to get sleep. I got to know from the staff that places in the area including homes are rarely equipped with AC or fans since the weather is cooler all year round. Apart from that, rest of the things were generally fine. The restaurant was decent and Big Sur river access is a plus to this place. We had good time at the river. It also has access to some trails behind the place. Overall except for the heat and the lack of amenities to counter the heat, this place is pretty good for a short 1-2 day stay in the Big Sur area. Since I booked in the motel, my experience is primarily based on motel room stay and not the cottages or tents.
