Guacimo Lodge is a special place! The cabins are built up into the bank and overlook the San Juan River with screened windows where you feel immersed in the jungle with the sounds of howler monkeys, parrots and many other birds calling early morning or at dusk. Our lovely guide Orlando ensured that we saw the incredible wildlife and ancient trees in the primary rainforest behind the lodge and on the Indo Maiz Biosphere trek. The canoeing down the Bartola river into the reserve was simply breathtaking. We also really enjoyed learning about the history of El Castillo and its important location on the transit route to the Pacific coast during the gold rush in the 19th century. Orlando did a great job bringing this story alive for us.

Unique & once in lifetime adventure … truly remote deep in rainforest by river (2 hours by local ) & local town & river steeped in history from 15century ! Wonderful trips into rainforest (trail built by the lodge), night river tours & es castillo tour too with guide Gus. Lodge is stunning - genuine eco, rooms very atmospheric & Beautiful thoughtful design Staff led by Marjory are truly warm kind hospitalable people - wanting guests to have the best time in their home. Chef and kitchen made local wonderful dishes Thank you to manual - owner who helped us plan very last minutes The other guests leaving as we arrived seemed to love it too!

Guacimo Lodge is a fantastic place! Marjiory was always helpful when I needed her, and the meals were delicious. I also really enjoyed all the organized activities (jungle tour, canoeing, caiman watching...). Thank you to the entire Guacimo Lodge team for making my stay so perfect. I recommend it 100%.

El viaje para llegar a Guacimo Lodge es espectacular, sobre todo el trayecto de El Castillo al hotel. La ubicación del hotel es excelente rodeado de naturaleza y con un clima muy variable pero muy agradable. Los detalles de la habitación excelentes y un desayuno espectacular. Gracias.

We stayed for three nights at this amazing place at the start of our Nicaraguan holiday. The location is amazing right on the edge of the Indio Miaz reserve and the rooms have no windows, just mesh, so the sounds of the jungle can be heard so you really are immersed in the jungle. The rooms are very spacious and many have an outside balcony which is great for relaxing and spotting the abundant wildlife that surrounds the place. All of the staff are so helpful and Marjorie made sure that nothing was too much; from wellies to raincoats, bespoke breakfast, lunch or dinner and she is always SO happy. A real delight and a wonderful welcome to this fantastic gem of a country. This is the best place to stay to start any of the wide variety of activities that you can do in the surrounding area.

Had the most superb experience at Guacimo Lodge It has an outstanding location and is situated at the shores of San Juan River - in the near vicinity of the amazing Indio Maiz Biosphere park. It’s an incredible adventure to reach the Lodge, and that is for sure a part of this incredible experience. The Cabanas are extremely beautiful and give one the full experience to be in the middle of nature, and give splendid views. We stayed for 3 nights, but could have used weeks there..the staff is super friendly, the food is good, you can book amazing trips to Indio Maiz, or go kayaking on the rivers..our local guide Orlando is the best ever local guide we have had, he knows everything about the nature and is really good at spotting wildlife..had the most incredible encounter with Sloths, Howler monkeys, Spider Monkeys, Bats, beautiful birds etc. Guacimo Lodge is a must for everybody that seeks the untouched nature, the quietness, the immense beauty and want to escape the bustling world for some time. Don’t deny yourself an amazing, over the top nature experience- and do visit Guacimo Lodge - it’s like a rare jewel - and you won’t regret it. Can highly recommended- and Manuel the owner, is extremely friendly and welcoming. Book your next stay at Guacimo Lodge - we will for sure return??????????

A hidden paradise on the San Juan River! The Guacimo Lodge offers breathtaking nature, a peaceful atmosphere, and warm hospitality. The beautifully designed open-air bungalows let you fully immerse in nature, waking up to birdsong. Manuel and his team ensure a perfect stay with great service and passion. The journey is easy and absolutely worth it. A must-visit for nature lovers!

A remote jungle lodge in a stunning riverside location. Very well designed large en-suite rooms in their own stilted huts. Mosquito netting screens work so well and doesn’t obstruct the views but also an outside balcony area as well as 4 posted bed with full mosquito netting. It is basic though so no air conditioning, charging points or wi-fi in rooms but there is a pool and the nice riverside communal space has comfortable seating options with charging points and wi-fi. What made it extra special though was our wonderful host, so friendly and helpful, speaking excellent English and nothing was too much trouble. for her. Lovely food all freshly cooked to our choices and at a time to suit us. Access is only by river and that’s part of the adventure. We got the 90minute boat ride from the Costa Rica border crossing so very easy.

We spent three nights at Guacimo Lodge and had an incredible experience. The caba?as provide a truly unique stay, giving the feeling of being immersed in the heart of the jungle. With mosquito screens on all windows and additional netting around the beds, comfort and protection are guaranteed. Each caba?a also offers breathtaking views of the Rio San Juan—a view you won’t forget! The service was absolutely outstanding, from the warm hospitality to the assistance in organizing our transfer from Managua. Although the journey was long, the lodge management ensured everything was seamless and well-organized, making it much easier for us. Everything at the lodge was clean and thoughtfully arranged. The food was always freshly prepared and delicious. We joined several activities, including a night tour, a cacao/fortress tour in El Castillo, and a canoe/ jungle walk with the excellent guide Orlando Díaz. Orlando speak is incredibly knowledgeable, and made the tours both informative and fun. I strongly encourage travelers to visit the San Juan region or even Guacimo Lodge itself. It’s a hidden gem that offers a rare opportunity to truly connect with nature in an unspoiled, magical setting. It’s a destination worth every moment!

Si vous cherchez une expérience magnifique, reposante, hors du temps en pleine jungle, ne cherchez pas plus loin, Guacimo Lodge est fait pour vous. On rejoint le lodge après 2 heures de bateau public depuis le port de San Carlos, au sud du Nicaragua, sur le Río San Juan, jusqu’à la petite ville d’El Castillo, où nous changeons de bateau pour une vingtaine de minutes en plus sur le fleuve. Le trajet est déjà une expérience, et permet de découvrir la jungle et les communautés qui vivent entre le Nicaragua et le Costa Rica. Pour organiser le transfert, la communication avec le lodge a été excellente et le long voyage s’est déroulé sans encombre - nous arrivions de l’aéroport de Managua. Une fois au lodge, c’est magnifique : toutes les chambres surplombent le fleuve, elles sont extrêmement bien entretenues et spacieuses, les moustiquaires sont installées tout autour des pièces, la literie est très bonne et il y a même une piscine, propre et agréable, pour se détendre. La salle commune est belle, c’est ici que vous déjeunerez et d?nerez entre vos activités. Et vous y mangerez bien : s’il n’y a pas énormément d’options (3 plats), tout est bien préparé, très frais, très bon. Le petit-déjeuner, soit nicaraguayen, soit continental, est très bon aussi. Au niveau des activités, nous avons choisi une descente du fleuve en kayak de jour, suivie d’une randonnée dans la réserve de l’Indio Maiz et d’une baignade dans le fleuve Bartola. Un énorme coup de c?ur. Nous avons passé avec Orlando, notre guide - exceptionnel, connaisseur fin de la jungle, de sa faune et de sa flore, et passionné - une matinée parfaite. Je n’ai jamais vu autant d’animaux en quelques heures dans la jungle, des singes, des serpents, un toucan, pléthore d’insectes dont les fameuses fourmis balles de fusil, des grenouilles venimeuses, des lézards, c’était absolument magnifique. Complètement sous le charme, nous avons encha?né la nuit tombée sur une promenade en bateau pour y observer la vie nocturne de la jungle, et en particulier les ca?mans, toujours avec Orlando. Je ne saurais que trop vous conseiller ce lodge et ces deux activités. Sur le retour, essayez aussi de découvrir la ville d’El Castillo, petite communauté charmante au bord du fleuve surplombée par une petite citadelle. Ce n’était pas ma première expérience en éco-lodge dans la jungle, mais c’était la meilleure ! Mention spéciale à Marjiory, qui a rendu l’expérience incroyable grace à son organisation sans faille et sa gentillesse, et à notre guide Orlando. Et bravo à toute l’équipe pour cette magnifique expérience, nous y reviendrons les yeux fermés !
