First off Winchester itself is a total WOW. Lots to do and see. The Westgate was a perfect spot our overnight stay. We enjoyed the drinks and the breakfast. The bed was super cozy and warm too on a rather cold December night. Looking forward to returning to Winchester and will stay at the Westgate again.

Excellent stay from start to finish. Beautiful bedroom and great breakfast. Staff very welcoming, pet friendly which is a bonus. This was our 2nd stay and will definitely return. Just a shame the bar closed before 10.30 & not open late for residents. Highly recommend the Westgate!

We had a lovely two night stay in the Westgate to visit Winchester Xmas market, could not fault the very friendly staff and food ( we had 2 breakfasts and 1 evening meal) which were all excellent , good quality ingredients, tasty and well presented. Our room was perfectly fine, nicely decorated and bed was very comfortable only negative was the shower in the en suite, it was too small for my husband and as I didn’t want to wash my hair I had great difficulty avoiding the rain shower due to the lack of space, a riser style shower head would have solved the problem. ( in fairness one of the staff did tell us the bathrooms are due to be upgraded next year so I really hope this feed back helps with the design) All in all though we had a lovely stay and would definitely come back and stay here when visiting Winchester.

A last minute booking, due to my daughter being in Winchester hospital, I found a real gem. A brilliant location for town centre / shops, and hospital walking distance. Lovely clean, tidy rooms and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and efficient. Amazing breakfast too! Would highly recommend and book direct on website, as slightly cheaper.

Good and the bad ! Let’s start with the good lovely friendly staff that go above and beyond to help . Room spotless and house keeping is outstanding! . Few negative where no working TV . If I was made aware before I come, I could have brought my laptop to watch TV on ! As a solo guest it was needed. I found the room to be very hot and uncomfortable but there was a great fan to use ! Traffic noise woke me up at 5am and people slamming doors until midnight!! I had high hope for breakfast but sausage and toast burnt . And only offered 1 cup of tea! It’s a lovely pub but not sure I’d stay again .

The room was clean and lovely with a double bed, desk (+chair), 2 side tables, a radiator, wall fan and little rail for clothes. There's an en suite small Victorian bathroom with toilet, sink and small shower. The bed was very comfortable and cushioned. There's a kettle on the desk plus tea/coffee, cups, milk and sugar. I was in Room 6 and the view is lovely as you can see the gate and walkway to the Great Hall. The location is perfect for town and also near the train station. For breakfast you get continental and hot options. The homemade bread and farm butter was delicious and paired nicely with the full English breakfast. (There is also vegetarian and vegan options) Staff are kind and very helpful (quick service). The only downsides were the slope in the floor and the showerhead is huge and unmovable, so make sure you turn the shower on before you step inside. Other than that this place has lots of character and charm and I highly recommend it.

The Staff really make this place. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. When I arrived at 9am from an overseas flight, they offered to store my luggage, have housekeeping prepare my room first, they carried up my heavy luggage (very steep narrow staircase), loaned me a converter so I could charge my phone since mine were in my locked luggage and offered me a splendid coffee. This was so appreciated after a redeye flight from U.S. followed by a bus ride from airport to train station, then a train journey to Winchester, followed by the short walk from the station. When I returned around 4 that afternoon, my room was spotlessly clean, the fan was on to cool it down, it was a quiet location as I'd requested and they booked me in for Sunday dinner. Harry made me the best Mojito I've ever had. I should have ordered the panzanella which sounded fabulous but I opted for the traditional Sunday roast. I really didn't care for it. The beef was rubbery and I could barely cut it. I believe they said it was their last portion and I got the worst bit. This was the only flaw. The next morning, I had the most amazing and substantial breakfast grazing from the continental buffet as well as enjoying a cooked entree. Again, all the Staff were properly trained, professional and the friendliest of any Staff of the 6 additional hotels in which I stayed on this trip. And the bar / restaurant is so visually appealing too. Maybe try the panzanella and LMK what I missed! I would definitely return.

VERY steep, narrow and twisting stairs to access the bedrooms. BE WARNED!!! Also bar refuses to take cash. Thats a big deal in my world. Very convenient location for a Winchester visit if these are not important issues.

Amazing. I love this place so much. It's not a far walk from the train station so when I got in late at night it was quick to walk to. The bed was so comfortable. I don't know if I was just jetlagged or what because once I hit that mattress and those pillows, I instantly fell asleep. I was just so cozy. It felt like I was staying in a friend's home. The staff was so wonderful. I felt bad, I was just this clueless American hot off the plane and didn't know what was going on. They were so patient, kind, and accommodating. I loved chatting with them. The pub downstairs was an experience to behold. This is a pub I would hang out at. I wish I could have stayed longer so that I COULD hang out at the pub more. The breakfast that was included was delicious. I can't speak any better words as to how wonderful my stay at the Westgate was. I just wished I took more pictures of it!
