Bed was very comfortable and had a really good night's sleep and a decent breakfast Unfortunately,the room we were in was a bit grubby The window frames were dirty,with some mould on seals,the headboard was dusty,the shower seals were also mouldy Hosts were very friendly,but I would not stay here again unless these faults were corrected

Really friendly hotel. Plenty of parking. We only paid for a small room, but it had everything we needed. The bathroom was nice, with an efficient shower, lovely towels and nice crisp bedding. There was happy hour 241 on a number of drinks from 3 till 6pm. Easy walking to Matlock and Matlock bath. A great walk from the door up and over Gulliver's Kingdom. The continental breakfast was really nice.

The accommodation was very tired looking and so was the bedroom. The breakfast was supposed to be continental, but in fact was just toast and cereal and a couple of croissants that looked like they had been there all week. The furniture in the bedroom was very tired and when we opened a drawer the handle came off in my husband's hand. There was also electric sockets in the middle of the headboard on the bed, that had the bedside lamps plugged in and the wires hanging down over the bedhead. Also there was open live wires showing on sockets in reception area, no facias on the sockets.

Booked the last minute and wasn't disappointed. We arrived early and asked if we could leave the car in the free car park as we couldn't check in until 1500 which we new about from the confirmation email. When we finally came back to check in we were asked if we wanted to book an evening meal and also a cooked breakfast but we preferred to just have the continental breakfast which was included in the price. The room was ok with a nice sized bed. The best part for me was the shower which was hot and powerful. The hotel is situated with in a 15 minute walk of Matlock and Matlock Bath which was ideal for venturing out by foot.

The High Tor hotel was a great place to stay. I particularly liked the central location, very comfortable beds and a lovely view. Breakfast offered a good selection and our rooms were very quiet ( which was a pleasant surprise as the main road is nearby). Special compliments to the chef who cooked my steak to perfection and well seasoned :-) Rooms were well equiped with large bathrooms and the owners were very charming. The site is a few minutes walk from the town center.
